Wether you’re a DYI Gardener, or you want to call us,
and our Earthworkers will take care of everything for you.
Feed House Plants Now
Even though your indoors is always the same temperature, as the days get longer, your house plants will know it’s spring because of increased hours of light. More light does more than just provide more chance for growth. Don’t settle for the cheap Miracle Grow on the shelf at the grocery store. Instead drop into your local garden centre and choose from the many organic choices, or ask Aden Earthworks to drop off a bottle the next time we’re at your property on your regular maintenance contract.
Spring Clean Up
Toronto winters… can cause damage. Call Aden Earthworks to clean up fallen twigs, branches and other winter debris. You need it now before planting.
Call Aden Earthworks… we have the tools! 416-925-ADEN
Before your garden beds are planted and beautiful, take care of the rough work now. Repairing freezing damage to cement paths, stonework, or paving can get messy. We have construction and mason experts on call for you. Now is the time to call.
Spring is the time to prune most deciduous woody plants (trees and shrubs that loose their leaves in winter). It’s done this time of year so that the new flowing sap in the warm weather can heal open wounds and keep your shrubs healthy.
Dormant Oil Spray For Last Year’s Disease Problem
If you have any trees that had disease problems the year before, such as black spots on their leaves or mildew, call Aden Earthworks now. One of our horticultural experts can identify the problem for you and diagnose. We can then spray the bare branches and eliminate the problem before the plant’s leaves appear.
Feed Your Showcase Shrubs
Grapes, Roses, Rhododendrons, Clematis, and Hydrangeas.
Most landscape trees and shrubs don’t need fertilizer. They naturally get everything they need from the nitrogen in the rain, the ecosystems in the soil, and the energy from the sun. But many domestic varieties of what are called “Specimen” plants are bred for things like big showy flowers, or big juicy fruits, rather than for hardy self-sufficiency. These plants need your help to perform their best in your landscape, so be sure to ask us to apply our slow release organic fertilizers so your roses will bloom bright, and your clematis will grow tall.
Call us to weed any problem areas of you property now while the weeds are small and the work needed to remove them is fast and easy. It will save you money!
Construction And Stonework
Now is your last chance, to have that dream pathway designed, or those eccentric custom paving stones in that design you’ve been thinking of. Perhaps it’s a dry stone wall, with hand laid river rock that you wanted to showcase your good taste in craftsmanship. Don’t wait until your garden is in full bloom. Now is the time, and we can tidy up once we’re done leaving you with the summer to enjoy.
Decks And Fences
This is also a great time to have a Deck or Fence installed because the ground has thawed, and we can finish in time for you to enjoy the works of our labour this summer.
The Staff’s Top 3 Spring Plant Picks
We asked our staff to Shout Out some of their favourite Spring plants. Here are some ideas for your garden dreamboards.
1. Snowdrops Bulbs (Galanthus nivalis)
The earliest of all the bulbs; dainty hanging white, drops of petals. In Toronto, they are the flowers that welcome the Spring. The bare bulbs need to be planted in Fall, but you can still order them now from us, in pots and in planters. They will come back for you year after year, as the harbingers of spring for your garden. Ask about Aden Urns and Planters.
2. Forsythia Shrub (Forsythia x intermedia)
This may be the heaviest flowering shrub of all in Toronto gardens. It’s brilliant, saturated yellow flowers come out before the leaves and create a mass of nothing but bright cheer and pungent sweet smell for pedestrians in your landscape to enjoy. Forsythia flowers are also covered in a protective natural wax, which helps them stay vibrant even through a Canadian Spring cold-snap, and this wax covering makes them hardy as a cut flower. Our clients often tell us that they use a few branches as Spring bouquets brought indoors in a vase.
3. Ben’s Favourite (Aden Earthwork’s Owner)
The Saucer Magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana)
You may wish to give Ben a congratulations the next time you see him as his family recently increased to five with the addition of a new baby boy. The Zlotnicks practice what they preach with a family Garden Of Aden that showcases a large showy Saucer Magnolia in the front yard which is enjoyed not only by the Zlonicks but by the whole neighbourhood. Saucer Magnolia trees produce huge “saucer” size white flowers before their leaves appear. Some varieties have tinges of pink, and if you’re lucky we can also order one of the new purple varieties for your landscape.
